Reading Strategies Have Limited Impact on Comprehension: Comprehension Development with Syntax

The significant role of teachers in language teaching and the discussion on teachers' knowledge is fundamental, as English is a language written and read throughout schools in the United States. Educators should have training in syntactic awareness to understand oral and print language clearly and aid in the growth or enhancement of comprehension for both fluent and nonfluent readers. Receiving linguistic training permits educators to develop a firm grasp of language development and its relation to comprehension. From this, all content teachers have a better knowledge of language development. Teachers can assist students struggling in other subject areas, and schools may have higher reading proficiency rates. Public and private schools must invest in staff training in syntactic techniques to encourage language development for staff and students.
